We Need to Say NEVER AGAIN

This blog doesn't have to do with the election. But after seeing something on St8 talk's blog, I decided that I needed to post this.

I warn you, the images are somewhat graphic, if not just hard to take in.

I cried my eyes out through the entire video.

Our children are precious. We need to come together not just as a nation, but as people to say "never again will we allow this to happen to our children."

We need harsher penalties on those who committ these crimes and those that allow instances like this to continue. Baby Brianna's life could have been saved if her grandmother or another family member whom knew of her abuse had stepped in. The penalty the grandmother and uncle faced were not harsh enough. They were just as guilty as the parents that killed her.

We need to see to it that the Supreme Court does not legislate from the bench and impede upon the rights of the states to punish the people guilty of murdering and or raping children. (Such as in Louisiana)

Currently, there is a bi-partisen bill sponsored by Senators Joe Biden (we all know whom he is), Senator Orrin Hatch (R-UT) and my state senator, Senator Arlen Specter (R-PA). It is the Child Protection Improvements Act. It passed Judiciary committe back on July 28 and is waiting to go to the floor for vote.

Specifically, the Child Protection Improvements Act of 2008 will:

• Make the pilot program permanent;
• Create an Applicant Processing Center (APC) to assist youth-serving organizations with the administrative tasks related to accessing the system, including the collection of fingerprints and working with the FBI on fees;
• Establish the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children as a “criminal history resource center” to assist youth-serving organizations on how to interpret criminal history records;
• Authorize a fee of no more than $25 to pay for the FBI for the background check and to off-set the expenses incurred by the new Applicant Processing Center; and
• Include privacy protections as recommended by the Department of Justice to ensure that criminal histories and related records are used and disposed of appropriately.

Please write or call your congressmen and ask them to vote in favor of the Child Protection Improvements Act. Info here

We need to do all that we can to ensure that cases like Baby Brianna are rare or non existant.
