The Liberty Belle

Today I decided to take a historic trip with my son. Okay, it wasn't really much of a trip seeing as how I only had to drive about 2 miles, but still nonetheless, it was to see a piece of our country and the world's history.

The Allegheny County Airport was doing free tours of the B-17 Liberty Belle. Before the tours began, the airport was offering flights (they were rather pricey, but Jordan and I did get to see it fly over our backyard. A good view since like I said, we only live about 2 miles from the airport).

The Liberty Belle was the only bomber to return from a mission of 9 planes that attacked Dusseldorf, Germany on September 9, 1944. It flew 64 missions before being retired on February 18, 1945.

Here are the photos:

Robin Hood and Prince John: A Tangled Web of Obama

The Disney version of Robin Hood has always been one of my favorite movies. I have not seen it in years, but now that it is on DVD I bought it so that Jordan could enjoy the tale for himself.

Now that Jordan's attention span is growing, we are starting to watch more movies together. Last night I decided it was time to pull out Robin Hood (it's been sitting on the dvd shelf for a few months now). I was once again, surprised to be taking notes on a children's movie to blog about. I put it on again this morning at Jordan's urging and had my dad sit down to listen to some of the lines with us.

At the beginning of the movie, Little John and Robin Hood are hiding in a tree from the royal soldiers. The following conversation transpires:
Little John: I was just wondering, are we good guys or bad guys? Ya know, our robbing the rich to feed the poor?
Robin Hood: Rob? That's a naughty word! We never rob! We just sort of borrow from those who can afford it.
Little John: Borrow? Boy are we in debt!

A few minutes later they cut to Prince John, riding in his royal carriage playing with gold coins, crying out gleefully: "Taxes! Taxes! Beautiful, lovely taxes! Rob the poor to feed the rich!"

It all got me thinking more about the story...who is in the right and who is wrong? Prince John was a tyrant. He taxed the people of Nottingham until they had nothing left. They took money from the poor box at the church and squeezed every last penny from all citizens, even the children.

Robin was praised and admired as a hero for taking the money back to distribute to the citzens of Nottingham.

The more you look into it though, Robin Hood and Prince John are one in the same and they both sound very much like the Obama Administration. They claim that they will take from the rich to distribute to the poor, but when you look at their programs, they are going to squeeze every last drop from all of us, no matter which social class we hail from.

Class warfare is about to get nastier than any of us have ever seen. Obama isn't going to be able to carry on like this forever before people start to truely revolt. His faithful followers believe that they are now entitled to free housing, free fuel in their vehicles and healthcare. Some think that reparations are coming from slavery.

It's not going to happen. Not as they envision it. Once healthcare and Cap and Tax pass by the end of this year, chaos will errupt. If people think the unemployment rate is bad now, wait until people are not only jobless, but have a $1000 electric bill to boot. What do you pay? Your mortgage or rent and have a roof over your head, or your electric bill and have electricity for a short time before you lose your home?

At the tax rates they are proposing, households and small business owners making $1.5 million or more will lose 57% of their income to taxes. What do they do? Fire employees? Or keep employees and drop their health coverage? Well, it's okay if they drop health coverage because the government will have a wonderful plan waiting on the other end!

Who is truely right and truely wrong? Obama is having it both ways. He says he will take taxes from the rich to feed the poor, but what he really is doing is taking taxes from the rich and the poor to feed himself and the rest of the big government machine.

Discrimination is Okay if White People are the Victims

If there is one thing that I have learned from Sonia Sotomayor and the liberal lemmings on Capitol Hill and in Hollywood, it is that it's okay to be a racist if white people are on the receiving end.

Last night on Hannity, actor/comedian Tom Arnold did his best to justify white people deserving to be discriminated against after all the years of slavery and racism against blacks and hispanics. While Tom may harbor white guilt (or maybe he is just trying to look good in front of the rest of the Kool-aid drinkers), I feel no guilt for actions that I 1. had no part in and 2. my family had no part in. Even if my family had been slave owners, I cannot control what happened two hundred years prior to my existance. So why should I feel guilty for what relatives that I never knew did?

I shouldn't. I live my life treating others as I wish to be treated to the best of my ability. I do not believe in affirmative action, but in earning your keep and creating your own success. I don't want to receive preferential treatment simply because I am a woman. What knowledge do we obtain if we are handed jobs and higher education that we did not show the will to achieve on our own? Are we not doing a complete injustice to people if we throw them into an experience that is beyond their realm of comprehension?

That goes for people of any race or gender. Are we not punishing the people that fought for their success by throwing people ahead of them in line that didn't want the job or the education bad enough to do the work to be qualified for it?

The left can spin it anyway they want, but the firefighters in the case that Sotomayor presided over got royally screwed. I still do not understand how a test was discriminatory toward minorities if it was a job related test. A test for a promotion should be based on knowledge of the job. If you don't know the job, then you don't deserve the promotion, especially in a line of duty where lives are at stake.

If you didn't see Hannity last night, find a video of it on Youtube. The Great American Panel seriously made me want to vomit. It made me sick to see a grown man sit there and justify ten times over why it is okay for white people to be discriminated against. We deserve it and earned it according to the left.

It's time to set aside "white guilt" and make everyone, every last American earn their dollar.

What ever happened to "All Men are Created Equal"?

Not the Party of 'No', but the Party of YES!

One of the many mantras in the 'Age of Obamania' is that the Republican Party is the Party of "No."

The left has made a full out habit of twisting the GOP's voting record and the fact that we are attempting to truely make a bipartisan effort to evoke the thirst for change into a facade of rejection.

The GOP did vote a clear and resounding NO to the Stimulus in the House. The left has made it out that we are against helping Americans. The Republican Party did not vote NO to helping Americans, but voted YES to helping Americans by trying to prevent the government from invading our lives further and piling the greatest debt on our shoulders that history has ever known.

It has been over 100 days since the Generational Theft Act passed into legislation and only a tiny fraction of the money has been dished out. Not only did the "shovel ready" jobs never come, but the unemployment rate has soared to an almost 30 year high. The liberals now want a second stimulus, yet only $58 out of $785 billion has been spent from the first. Obama now claims that they didn't have enough information at the time to predict this outcome, yet thousands of experts reported over and over that the stimulus would surely fail, kill the value of the US Dollar and put us at around $3 trillion in National Debt.

So why was the stimulus so critical to push through when Obama didn't have "all the facts"?

Another area that the GOP supposedly votes no to is energy independence. All I hear is DRILL BABY DRILL. Pennsylvania State Legislature Republicans as a way to balance the budget and create jobs wants to buy land to drill here and drill now while Govenor Rendell insists that PA Republicans cannot balance the budget without the tax hikes that he proposes.

When it comes to energy independence, the left says no to drilling, nuclear, coal and wind farms that may obstruct the view of Ted Kennedy's boating excursions.

When it comes to the right to life, conservatives have a clear YES to life. We aren't denying women the freedom of so called "choice" but saying YES to the rescue of innocent lives. (Heaven forbid a woman be "punished with a baby." And that is a quote from our dear leader. I thought he was a family man??)

The list goes on. In every instance where the left attempts to further our debt, grab another dollar out of our pockets to put into the pocket of someone that didn't earn it, turn a cheek to people that break the law, and further disrespect and shred the beautiful document that birthed our country, Conservatives end up the bad guy.

But people are waking up. The Tea Parties have been wildly successful and I have seen signs outside of businesses in my area protesting Governor Rendell's re-election and voting no to Cap and Tax. The more we speak out, the more the media criticizes us. You have to wonder what they are so afraid of when our own President openly makes fun of us for suggesting alternatives.

The fear is rising and it isn't because our representatives (well a select few) are strapping on a set. It is because the People are ready to take back what is rightfully and LEGALLY ours as written and dictated by The US Constitution.

What did Michael Jackson do for YOU?

It's been two weeks, and Michael Jackson is still dead.

That is the gist of headlines at this point to me.

Why are we devoting all of this time and energy to honoring a man that was accused on multiple occassions of pedophilia? He was married multiple times. He destroyed his own body. He allowed children that were not HIS to sleep with him in his bed. He disgusted most of America on the MTV Video Music Awards when he made out with his short lived wife (short lived being the marriage) Lisa Marie Presley. He hung his infant child (which we are now learning that possibly NONE of the children were actually his) over a balcony.

A real family man, huh?

What has Michael Jackson ever done for YOU? What has he done that made your life better other than put out some catchy tunes a over 20 years ago? I admitt it. I love "Beat It." It's a great song. But it didn't change my life. It didn't make me a better person. The only thing that song inspired was some fun singing in the car.

This past weekend, we celebrated our nation's freedom for the 233rd time. People came out in record numbers in the same fashion that they did to form our country over two centuries ago. It was all glazed over with frivilous talk of Michael Jackson's estate and custody battles and other nonsense that will never affect our lives directly.

I'd like to introduce you to some people that you have never known and will never have the opportunity to know. These people did something that DID change your life. They did something that affected the lives of others.

But you will never have the opportunity to thank them.

And we should all be ashamed.

This is Specialist Ross McGinnis. Ross died on December 4, 2006 in Iraq at age 19. Ross gave his life when he dove onto a grenade to save the lives of the people around him. Ross was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor in June of 2008.

Bored out of my skull

It has been almost 3 years since Ross died, and the hurt from his death that his family and friends feel is still there. It is visible. This is from Ross's Myspace. His page was never taken down. Note the dates of these messages to him and who they are from:

Photobucket
The picture in the comment from the person named Ian, is a photo of him with Ross McGinnis' ashes at his funeral. The comment was made only a few weeks ago.

This man gave his life selflessly. He died a brave and noble death. We do him a disservice when we cry over a man that did nothing to directly better our lives and did nothing to serve us and to help preserve our freedom and create freedom for the oppressed.

Today (July 7, 2009), 7 US Soldiers lost their lives in Afghanistan. In addition, the Taliban is still claiming to hold the US Soldier that went missing the week of Michael Jackson's death...but MJ's death overshadowed this story.

It over shadowed the fact that US Troops are leaving Iraqi cities and turning power back over to the people. They are leaving them with cities in which violence is down. Children can attend new schools. Citizens can do business. They can vote.

But no need to thank them.

When was the last time you thanked a soldier that you didn't even know for his service?

I can tell you when I did. June 26, 2009 at a community fireworks celebration. The recruiters from the US Airforce recruiting station that my brother went through were walking around talking with civilians and handing out key chains. I introduced them to my son and told him how they are like his Uncle and thanked them for everything they do.

Get on Google. Talk to members of your community. There are families and friends everywhere in this country that lost loved ones to war. It might have been Operation Iraqi Freedom. It may have been Vietnam or Korea. It may have been while helping people in the Sudan.

These men may have died, but take the time to get to know them. If anyone deserves posthumous recognition and honor it is these couragous men and women.

They are the ones that have made your life better. Not a dead pop star.

**ETA** The real tragedy of Michael Jackson's death is that 3 children who only ever knew him as their father have lost him. I am not so cynical that I do not recognize that fact. The world will continue to see celebrities come and go, just as we will see members of our own families come and go. The point is that we need to prioritize what is important.

Did this man REALLY TRUELY deserve non stop news coverage for two weeks after his death when North Korea was firing off scud missles and soldiers were dying in the desert to protect us and to secure a better life for the people of the Middle East?

Just consider that.

Pittsburgh Independence Day Tea Party!

Today is our Nation's 233rd birthday. Two hundred and thirty three years ago today, our Founding Fathers celebrated their new found freedom with the signing of the Declaration of Independence. They paved the road for future generations to be able to live out all of their God given freedoms.

Some of these freedoms are the freedom to enjoy religion, to bear arms, to own property, to obtain an education, to vote by secret ballot, to become entrepeneurs, and possibly most importantly to peacefully assemble in protest.

Today, I practiced my freedom to peacefully assemble and use my voice to protest with thousands of others across America. We came out to protest the large government machine that is doing everything in their power to repeal our freedom.

Citizens of Pittsburgh and the surrounding areas gathered once again today. This time on Flagstaff Hill, across from Phipps Conservatory.

Here is my son and I. His first lesson in the 1st Amendment:

The 9-12 Project Local chapters were out gathering more members. Currently, our area has approximately 700 members: Photobucket

God Bless America. Thank you to everyone who has fought in the past, and continues to fight to spread freedom and liberty throughout the world.

By the way...can you spot any of the racist rednecks??

My grave mistake in fashion...

Yesterday I went to Macy's to take advantage of the wonderful 4th of July sales and do my part to help the economy! (I'm such a patriot, am I not?)

Anyway. I purchased a beautiful teal designer shirt for a heck of a bargin! It's a gorgeous color and looks nice on me. It has a swirly design...circles with some swirls through them.

Or so I thought.

When I got to work this morning and sat down I realized that the "swirls" going through the circles are in fact not that. It is a top covered in peace signs. My best highschool friend works in my department. I went to her desk and she complimented my shirt and I told her why I now despise this shirt. She said she thought that's what the design was (being peace signs) and agrees that she's not feeling it. (Both of our brothers serve in the US Air Force and we our proud of what they do for our country.)

I detest the peace sign. Not because I am anti-peace, but because I am anti wanting peace but not having the courage to attain peace by neccessary means.

The peace sign orginated in Britian in 1958 as a symbol for nuclear disarment. It was picked up by the Committee for Nuclear Disarment as their logo and then became the international symbol for peace throughout the 1960s. Followers of the anti-war movement adopted the symbol into their culture most especially in opposition to the Vietnam War.

In our culture today, people that crave peace simply do not understand the means through which must go to reach peace. They want it, they need it, but they don't have the guts to FIGHT for it.

The Vietnam War can be debated ad nauseum on whether or not we should have been there and the morality of events that occurred during those years. But the fact of the matter is, members of the anti-war movement treated members of our military like common criminals when they arrived home. They were disgraced and called murders for simply doing THEIR JOB.

Today, we have radical groups such as Code Pink and the Western Baptist Church that do the same to our men and women in uniform. They protest military funerals, calling our fallen soldiers homosexual slurs, murders and yelling out that God hates them.

What would they have done in 1778 if they were alive then? Would they not have fought for freedom from an oppressive government?

No. They would not have. These are the same people that voted for tyranny on November 4th, 2008. These are the same people that  voted to bring our troops home NOW instead of letting them come home in victory (which would deny the people of Iraq their God given right to free will). These are the same people that are not congradulating our troops and celebrating the freedom that we have granted the people of Iraq as our soldiers depart Iraqi cities.

FREEDOM is not free, and neither is peace. You cannot reach peace without sacrifice, and unfortunately blood is the sacrifice to be paid. But people willingly give their lives for the freedom of others and for future generations because life is meaningless without free will, without liberty and without times of peace. It is that blood that is shed that we should celebrate every day that we go without a terrorist attack on our soil. Last October, not one American lost their life in Iraq. The people that fell before them helped to make that happen. They were a part of the reason that the Iraqis can now move toward peace.

Today as we are on the eve of OUR granted freedom and peace, we should celebrate all of the lives fallen in our names. Do not let our Founders and every soldier that came after them die in vain. To remain a free country, we must remain a country at arms.

"For a people who are free, and who mean to remain so, a well-organized and armed militia is their best security."~ Thomas Jefferson

I will be returning this shirt tonight.

Look tomorrow for reporting from the Pittsburgh Tea Party!
