The Disney version of Robin Hood has always been one of my favorite movies. I have not seen it in years, but now that it is on DVD I bought it so that Jordan could enjoy the tale for himself.
Now that Jordan's attention span is growing, we are starting to watch more movies together. Last night I decided it was time to pull out Robin Hood (it's been sitting on the dvd shelf for a few months now). I was once again, surprised to be taking notes on a children's movie to blog about. I put it on again this morning at Jordan's urging and had my dad sit down to listen to some of the lines with us.
At the beginning of the movie, Little John and Robin Hood are hiding in a tree from the royal soldiers. The following conversation transpires:
Little John: I was just wondering, are we good guys or bad guys? Ya know, our robbing the rich to feed the poor?
Robin Hood: Rob? That's a naughty word! We never rob! We just sort of borrow from those who can afford it.
Little John: Borrow? Boy are we in debt!
A few minutes later they cut to Prince John, riding in his royal carriage playing with gold coins, crying out gleefully: "Taxes! Taxes! Beautiful, lovely taxes! Rob the poor to feed the rich!"
It all got me thinking more about the story...who is in the right and who is wrong? Prince John was a tyrant. He taxed the people of Nottingham until they had nothing left. They took money from the poor box at the church and squeezed every last penny from all citizens, even the children.
Robin was praised and admired as a hero for taking the money back to distribute to the citzens of Nottingham.
The more you look into it though, Robin Hood and Prince John are one in the same and they both sound very much like the Obama Administration. They claim that they will take from the rich to distribute to the poor, but when you look at their programs, they are going to squeeze every last drop from all of us, no matter which social class we hail from.
Class warfare is about to get nastier than any of us have ever seen. Obama isn't going to be able to carry on like this forever before people start to truely revolt. His faithful followers believe that they are now entitled to free housing, free fuel in their vehicles and healthcare. Some think that reparations are coming from slavery.
It's not going to happen. Not as they envision it. Once healthcare and Cap and Tax pass by the end of this year, chaos will errupt. If people think the unemployment rate is bad now, wait until people are not only jobless, but have a $1000 electric bill to boot. What do you pay? Your mortgage or rent and have a roof over your head, or your electric bill and have electricity for a short time before you lose your home?
At the tax rates they are proposing, households and small business owners making $1.5 million or more will lose 57% of their income to taxes. What do they do? Fire employees? Or keep employees and drop their health coverage? Well, it's okay if they drop health coverage because the government will have a wonderful plan waiting on the other end!
Who is truely right and truely wrong? Obama is having it both ways. He says he will take taxes from the rich to feed the poor, but what he really is doing is taking taxes from the rich and the poor to feed himself and the rest of the big government machine.
